Growing public recognition of the climate benefits to a less meat and more plant-based diet will result in ever greater demand for fresh produce. Greenhouses can meet this demand more efficiently than field farming.

In particular, our greenhouses which use a world-first for renewable heating, allow for all the benefits of using a very high-efficiency greenhouse, whilst also not compromising on being able to add additional heat and carbon dioxide. The result is large amounts of high quality, low-carbon input food.

Our story

Successfully developing a large number of renewable energy projects and creating a world renowned renewable energy consultancy , the founders have now channelled their passion for clean energy into decarbonising the food chain. Low Carbon Farming was designed to solve serious national issues of food security and agricultural reliance on fossil fuels. Developing a viable solution has taken teams of experts from multiple disciplines and means Britain is a step closer to reducing agricultural carbon emissions.

Our vision

Our vision is to meet the increasing demand for fresh, healthy produce farmed in the most efficient and least environmentally damaging manner.  Our ground source heat pump greenhouses will also provide greater British food security, investment for local communities and give consumers more opportunities to buy British produce.

Our mission

We want all of the benefits of greenhouse growing, without using so much fossil fuel for heating, can it be done? Our mission was to find an alternative way. Our projects can be a showcase for how renewable heating systems, and heat pumps in particular, can be deployed at a commercial scale, something not done to date in the UK.

Meet the team

Low Carbon Farming draws on the expertise of the Oasthouse Ventures team, and is supplemented by expert external advisors.

World-first projects

Our first two locations will create 360 permanent new jobs in Norfolk and Suffolk. The 70 acres of greenhouses will be capable of producing 12% of the UK’s tomatoes with a 75% reduction in carbon footprint.
